VIDEO: Shoplifters Brawl With Workers At UES Barney's

The brawl broke out on Madison Avenue after a Barney's employee chased after women trying to steal a $350 hat.

UPPER EAST SIDE, NY — A chaotic brawl broke out on Madison Avenue after accused shoplifters tried to steal a winter hat worth about $350 from the Upper East Side Barney's, police said.

A woman bolted out of the department store on the morning of Nov. 18 after two employees confronted her about a Moncler hat that she placed in a bag without paying for, police said. The shoplifter led store workers on a chase down Madison Avenue, eventually leading to the woman being tackled onto the hood of a van, according to surveillance footage released by police.

One of the shoplifter's friends dashed to her rescue, repeatedly punching store workers in the middle of the street, according to the police video. The shoplifters also bit and scratched the employees, police said.
