Violence Erupts At Anti-Migrant Protest On UES, 6 Arrested: Cops
Among those arrested were an 81-year-old woman and former mayoral candidate Curtis Sliwa, police said.
UPPER EAST SIDE — An anti-migrant protest outside Gracie Mansion erupted in violence and six people were arrested, among them two octogenarians and former mayoral candidate Curtis Sliwa, according to police.
People threw punches in Carl Schurz Park, near East 88th Street and East End Avenue, where about 100 protesters and 50 counter-protesters clashed about 2 p.m., according to police, reports and a press release from Sliwa.
A woman, 81, and a man, 80 were arrested on disorderly conduct and obstruction charge, police said.

Andrew Hallinan, 32, was charged with assaulting an officer — the NYPD said one cop suffered a minor hand inury during the protest — as well as resisting arrest and obstruction, police said.
One protester told a New York Post reporter they felt unsafe because nearly 100,000 people have been bussed to New York City — including a baby girl hospitalized after her fraught journey — housed in tents and forced to sleep on New York City streets.

Sliwa, meanwhile, took a jab at Mayor Eric Adams, whom he blames for the crisis in New York City and who earlier this month compared himself to nonviolent civil rights leader Mahatma Gandhi.
“He’s never done anything Gandhi-like,” Sliwa, 69, told the Post. “I’m going to show him what Gandhi used to do.”
