Woman, 86, Assaulted At UES Supermarket, Police Say

UPPER EAST SIDE, NY — Police were looking on Wednesday for a man who assaulted an 86-year-old woman on the Upper East Side in broad daylight, New York City Police Department officials said.

According to the NYPD, on March 23 at 1:25 p.m., inside the Morton Williams supermarket at 1066 Third Avenue, a man approached the victim from behind and pushed her to the ground. The attack happened as she was leaving the supermarket, police said.

The suspect ran away, heading downtown on Third Avenue, and the victim was taken to New York-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center in stable condition.

The investigation is ongoing, and no arrests have been made yet, but the police say the suspect was last seen wearing a gray and burgundy jacket, a dark-colored hooded sweatshirt, gray sweatpants and gray shoes.
