Woman Arrested For Upper East Side Purse Snatching, Police Say

The woman and one accomplice stole a 77-year-old's pocketbook as she waited for a taxi.

UPPER EAST SIDE, NY — One accused thief is facing charges for snatching a purse from an elderly woman on the Upper East Side, police said.

Sabrina Moreno, 20, was arrested Thursday and charged with grand larceny and criminal possession of stolen property. Moreno is accused of snatching a pocketbook out of the hands of a 77-year-old woman, police said.

On April 18, Moreno and one other unidentified woman approached the victim was she was waiting for a taxi on the corner of First Avenue and East 77th Street, police said. Moreno and the other woman ripped the 77-year-old's pocketbook out of her hands and fled the location, police said. The pocketbook contained a cellphone, credit cards and $465 in cash, police said.

The second woman wanted in connection with the theft remains on the loose, police said.
