Woman Dives Into Central Park Reservoir, Rescued By Police: NYPD
A 36-year-old woman was rescued after she jumped into the Central Park Reservoir on a rainy Monday afternoon, according to police.

CENTRAL PARK, NY — A woman dove into the Central Park Reservoir Monday afternoon, prompting authorities to go in after her and remove her from the water, according to police.
The 36-year-old woman jumped into the Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis Reservoir shortly after 2 p.m., near the northwest side of the pool near West 93rd Street, according to an NYPD spokesperson.
Rescue crews from the Fire Department and the NYPD's Emergency Service Unit entered the water a short time later, police said.

By around 4 p.m., a diver from the NYPD ESU had rescued the woman, who was in stable condition and being taken to Mount Sinai Hospital for evaluation. Police had no information about how, exactly, she entered the water, or what motivated her to do so.
An apparent photo from the scene, posted to Twitter, shows what appears to be an FDNY speedboat hurtling toward the woman with the city's skyline in the background.

"Telling my kids that this pic of FDNY going after the rogue swimmer in the Central Park reservoir was Washington on the Delaware," tweeted Chris Mukasa.
It is, of course, illegal to swim in the 106-acre reservoir, though a few determined divers have attempted the feat over the years — including as recently as last week, and this past April. It's unclear why anyone would have tried to get into the water on Monday of all days, when a rainstorm drenched the city starting in the early afternoon.
