Woman Pushing Stroller Shot Dead On Upper East Side: Police

A 20-year-old woman was shot and killed while pushing a stroller on an Upper East Side street Wednesday night, police said.

UPPER EAST SIDE, NY — A 20-year-old woman pushing a baby in a stroller was shot and killed while walking on the Upper East Side Wednesday night, police said.

The unidentified woman was walking near the corner of East 95th Street and Lexington Avenue just before 8:30 p.m. when someone shot her in the head, an NYPD spokesperson said.


Update, 9:25 a.m. Thursday: A person of interest has been identified, according to a local lawmaker.

She was rushed to Metropolitan Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. The three-month-old infant in the stroller was unharmed, police said, though it was taken to a hospital for evaluation.

Police had no immediate description of any suspects, and no arrests were immediately announced.

Videos posted to the Citizen app showed emergency vehicles surrounding the area near Samuel Seabury Playground and the P.S. 77 Lower Lab School just as night was falling.

"We’re going to find this person that’s guilty of this horrific crime," Mayor Eric Adams said at the scene on Wednesday. "We’re going to find him and bring him to justice."

City Councilmembers Julie Menin and Keith Powers, whose districts both border the site of the shooting, both tweeted that they were monitoring the situation.

"I am praying for this victim and I’m devastated by this unrelenting and senseless violence," Menin said, with Powers calling it "an unbelievable tragedy."

Police asked the public to stay away from the area as the shooting was investigated, warning to expect emergency vehicles and road closures.
