Barge Fire At 59th Street In Hudson River Injures 4 People: FDNY

Flames ignited on an Upper West Side barge early Thursday morning, the FDNY said. Here's what fire officials know.

UPPER WEST SIDE, NY — Four people were injured early Thursday morning, including one firefighter, after a barge caught fire on West 59th Street in the Hudson River, the FDNY told Patch.

The flames started around 2:25 a.m., and firefighters battled the blaze for nearly 2 hours before it was put under control, FDNY said.

Three civilians and one firefighter were injured in the blaze — all of the injuries were minor — and at least three of the people were taken to Roosevelt Hospital for care, FDNY said.

The cause of the fire is not yet known.
