Bias Attack Targets Asian Woman on Upper West Side 1 Train: Police

Police are looking for a pair of women who attacked a subway rider at the 86th Street station on the Upper West Side.

UPPER WEST SIDE, NY — Police are looking for a pair of women who attacked and hurled anti-Asian slurs at a subway rider at the 86th Street station.

According to the NYPD, a 29-year-old woman was riding the 1 train uptown with her parents when the two suspects entered the train at the 86th Street station and immediately began shouting and swearing at her. They then pulled the victim to the ground and punched her in the head while shouting anti-Asian slurs, police say. The attack happened on June 26 at 7:30 p.m.

The suspects fled the train at the Cathedral Parkway-110th Street station.

Police describe both attackers as Hispanic women and both were wearing multi-colored Hawaiian leis. One woman was wearing a black tank top and black pants and the other was wearing a black shirt and blue pants. Police released video of the two suspects, below.
