The Cottage, Popular Chinese Spot, Reopens In New UWS Location

UPPER WEST SIDE, NY — Chinese food lovers on the Upper West Side rejoice. The popular restaurant The Cottage reopened on Wednesday in its new neighborhood location at 2199 Broadway, on the corner of 78th Street, according to ILoveTheUpperWestSide.

The Cottage closed in 2020 after a 40-year-run in the neighborhood at Amsterdam Avenue and West 77th Street. At the time, owners said they weren't able to work out a new lease with its landlord.

There was buzz beginning in winter 2021 that The Cottage was looking for a new location in the neighborhood to reopen. The buzz was followed by a liquor license approval request in March for "The Cottage Restaurant" at 2199 Broadway.

Not long after, a Landmarks Preservation Commission filing granted permission for space alterations to be made to the 2199 Broadway address — and the documents listed "The Cottage Restaurant" as the owner.

Both the liquor license and Landmarks filing pointed to the impending return of the Chinese eatery to the Upper West Side.

That return took place on Wednesday.

"We hope the community can visit us for an amazing experience of Szechuan cuisine and taste our famous Szechuan dumplings," The Cottage told ILoveTheUpperWestSide. The local Upper West Side publication also reported that the Cottage is offering a 20 percent discount for dine-in and take-out until Nov. 15.

The newly opened Cottage will be open daily from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.
