Elderly Man Hit And Killed By Van On UWS: Police

Angel Rodriguez-Albuquerque, 74, was crossing the intersection at Amsterdam and 106th Street, when he was hit by a van, police said.

UPPER WEST SIDE, NY — An elderly man was hit and killed by a van on the Upper West Side, police said on Thursday.

Angel Rodriguez-Albuquerque, 74, was crossing the intersection on May 10 about 3:45 p.m. at Amsterdam Avenue and West 106th Street, when a Ram van struck him, police said.

He was thrown to the pavement and hit his head, police said.

Rodriguez-Albuquerque was rushed to a local hospital in stable condition as the van driver remained on the scene, police said.

Two days later, though, the 74-year-old died from his injuries, police said.

There have been no arrests.

Rodriguez-Albuquerque, a Dominican immigrant, was a resident of the West Side Federation for Senior Housing facility on the Upper West Side.

“He was awesome, always looking out for us. He treated us like we were his other kids," one of the staff members told the New York Daily News.
