Fire Breaks Out In UWS Fairway Basement, FDNY Says

Firefighters rushed to the scene on West 74th Street and Broadway after a fire alarm activated at the busy supermarket.

UPPER WEST SIDE, NY — A fire broke out in the basement of a Fairway supermarket on a busy stretch of the Upper West Side on Monday afternoon, an FDNY spokesman said.

Firefighters responded to the store, located on West 74th Street and Broadway, following the activation of a fire alarm in the building around 1:30 p.m., an FDNY spokesman said. As of 2 p.m. the FDNY is still operating at the scene.

The store was evacuated as the FDNY worked to control the fire, a spokesman said. No injuries have been reported.
