UPPER WEST SIDE, NY — A popular French cafe and bakery just opened on the Upper West Side that has been dubbed possibly the best cookie maker in New York City and has received praise from Oprah Winfrey.

Maman, which now has 10 locations across the city, had its soft opening last week at 429 Amsterdam Avenue, between West 80th and 81st Streets, and is now open in the neighborhood seven days a week.

Maman opened its first location in SoHo in 2014. It found immediate success and quickly expanded across the city. Maman is the French word for mother.

While it is no doubt a controversial subject, Maman was called maybe "the best chocolate chip cookie in NYC" by the publication Secret NYC.

None other than Orpah Winfrey put a box of cookies from Maman as one of her favorite things to gift in 2017. The French cafe has also received stellar reviews from publications such as Food & Wine.

The new Upper West Side location held its soft opening on Saturday, where patrons were able to "pay as they please" and all proceeds were sent to support an organization called Welcome Baby that helps low-income mothers.
