H Mart Grocery Store Set To Open On The Upper West Side: Report
The Korean supermarket chain will open on Amsterdam Avenue between 69th and 70th streets, according to multiple reports.
UPPER WEST SIDE, NY — The popular H-Mart grocery store will open by the end of the summer on the Upper West Side, according to multiple reports, including ILoveTheUpperWestSide and the WestSideRag.
The new Korean grocery-store chain location will open within the more than 9,000-square-foot space at 210 Amsterdam Ave., between West 69th and 70th streets, ILoveTheUpperWestSide reported.
The new H Mart will move into the Upper West Side storefront left empty by a Rite Aid, which closed in November 2021 after decades in the neighborhood.

It joins a section of the UWS in the low 70s that is already flush with grocery stores, including Trader Joe's, Fairway, Citarella, and Pioneer Supermarket.
H-Mart was founded in Queens in 1982, and currently has more than a dozen locations across New York City, including one at 110th Street and Broadway.

"Our mission is to offer the superior products, if that means we have to get our fish from the Fulton Fish Market, we do it," reads H Mart's mission statement. "If it means we have to negotiate directly with farmers, it's done. If it means we have to go out of our way, and bend over backwards for the best price, it's just not a problem."
H Mart received an added bump in popularity in 2021 with the publishing of Michelle Zauner's memoir, "Crying in H Mart," which spent an incredible 60 weeks on the New York Times bestseller list.
