Man In Columbia Gear Robs University Building, Police Say

The man is accused of breaking into Columbia University's law school building and stealing computer equipment.

MORNINGSIDE HEIGHTS, NY — A man sporting Columbia University gear broke into a building on the Morningside Heights campus and ransacked offices, police said.

The man broke into the ivy league's West 116th Street law school building on the night of Monday, April 1 and entered several offices, police said. After stealing credit cards and computer equipment the man fled the building and made his getaway by catching the M11 bus heading north on Amsterdam Avenue, police said.

Police also linked the man to a March robbery at a Brooklyn gym.

The suspect is described as a man standing about 6-feet-tall and weighing around 200 pounds with short black hair and a receding hairline, police said. Two of the three surveillance photos released by the NYPD show the man wearing clothing branded with Columbia University symbols.
