Man Defecates On Pride Flag In UWS Outdoor Dining Shed: Police

UPPER WEST SIDE, NY — A man defecated on a gay pride flag in a tapas restaurant's outdoor dining shed on the Upper West Side, police said over the weekend.

The man relieved himself Buceo 95's shed on West 95th Street and Amsterdam Avenue on April 15 about 1 a.m., police said.

He used a second pride flag to clean himself then ran away up Amsterdam Avenue, police said.

The Upper West Side restaurant has a "very inclusive, largely LGBTQ+ identifying staff," Nathan Nolen Edwards, the general manager who identifies as gay, told the New York Post.

"It's definitely a punch to the guy," he added to the New York Post. "We certainly haven't experienced anything to this degree. A defecation on a pride flag is not the norm here."

The suspect is roughly 40-years-old, stands about 5 feet 9 inches tall, and has a medium build, police said.

The NYPD Hate Crimes Task Force is investigating.
