Man Who Broke Cop's Leg On UWS Arrested, Police Say

UPPER WEST SIDE, NY — A man is facing charges for allegedly breaking a cop's leg after kicking the officer during a chase on the Upper West Side, police said.

Lincoln George, 48, was arrested Thursday and charged with assaulting a police officer, and NYPD spokesman said. The man is accused of kicking a police officer who tried to arrest him near West 91st Street and Amsterdam Avenue while responding to reports of a robbery at a nearby Duane Reade.

When officer stopped George and a woman, the two attempted to flee and a chase ensued, police said. Police were able to arrest the woman, but George escaped after kicking an officer in the leg, police said.

The injured officer was treated at St. Luke's Hospital for a broken leg, police said.

George is an ex-convict who was released on parole in March, according to the New York State Department of Corrections. The ex-con served prison sentences for attempted robbery between 1988 and 2001, according to state records.
