Mermaid Inn Reopening In New Upper West Side Spot
The immensely well-liked seafood eatery will reopen on the Upper West Side after shuttering its original neighborhood location in October.

UPPER WEST SIDE, NY — The incredibly popular Mermaid Inn seafood restaurant is reopening on the Upper West Side in a new spot after closing its original neighborhood location last year.
The Mermaid Inn will reopen later this year in a 6,500 -square-foot space at 335 Columbus Ave. at West 76th Street in a former Chase bank, owner Danny Abrams told the New York Post.
It is not a far move for the restaurant, which closed its location in October on Amsterdam Avenue between West 87th and 88th streets after a new owner took over the building with unclear plans for the address.

"We've been here for 15 years, celebrated birthdays, weddings, anniversaries, and holidays with our guests up here and it feels like they're family — so we wanted to continue to service the Upper West Side," Abrams, a resident of the Upper West Side, told Patch at the time. "It's just a good place to be."
Mermaid Inn is best known for serving up oysters, lobsters, salmon, shrimp, old-bay french fries, and cocktails.

In 2020, it also closed its longtime joint at 96 Second Ave., but currently has three other outposts in Chelsea, Greenwich Village, and Times Square.
“The lease took longer than we expected, but we got a really good deal," Abrams told the New York Post about the new Upper West Side spot.
Abrams did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Patch.
