New Upper West Side Pub To Open In Former McAleer's Space: Report

Frank Mac's Pub will reportedly be run by the same family that operated McAleer's for more than 60 years.

UPPER WEST SIDE, NY — The family behind recently-shuttered Upper West Side staple McAleer's Pub is planning to open a new haunt in the neighborhood.

A sign advertising the opening of Frank Mac’s Pub was spotted by the West Side Rag in the same Amsterdam Avenue space that was previously home to McAleer's. The sign asks Upper West Siders to keep on the lookout for more information about the new business on social media, according to the report.

The West Side Rag reported that the family behind McAleer's applied for a liquor licence for a business named Frank's in the Amsterdam Avenue and West 80th Street location in November of 2017.

McAleer's Pub held a grand closing ceremony in early May after announcing that the business would close after 65 years on the Upper West Side. The Irish pub's owners decided to shut down the business on May 7 to enjoy retirement, according to a statement posted to the businesses' Facebook page. McAleer's owner, Keith McAleer, described the pub's tenure on the Upper West Side as a "great ride."

"I want to take this time to thank all the current and former staff members over these many years that represented McAleer's Pub so well. It's been a great ride. Thank you all so much," a statement posted to the pub's Facebook page reads.
