New Upper West Side Trader Joe's Gets Opening Date

The neighborhood's second Trader Joe's will open next month on Columbus Avenue between West 92nd and 93rd streets.

UPPER WEST SIDE, NY — After a few delays, an opening day for the Upper West Side's second Trader Joe's has finally been set.

The popular grocery chain will open its Columbus Avenue store on May 4, Trader Joe's announced on its website. The store, which is located between West 92nd and 93rd streets, will open its doors at 8 a.m.

Trader Joe's has teased its opening over the past few weeks, including holding a three-day job fair in mid-April. The company announced that it would open a store on Columbus Avenue nearly two years ago. The store was originally slated to open in late 2017, but the debut has been pushed back on two occasions.

The new Trader Joe's should serve as a relief to the entire neighborhood. Customers at West 72nd Street may see the long lines shrink and residents of the northern section of the Upper West Side won't have to travel quite so far for their kale chips.

The Columbus Avenue store will also be Trader Joe's closest location to Upper Manhattan neighborhoods such as Harlem and Washington Heights and the Bronx.

Trader Joe's has taken New York City by storm since opening its first store in Union Square in 2006. The company now has locations in neighborhoods such as Soho, Chelsea, Midtown East, Brooklyn Heights and Rego Park.
