UPPER WEST SIDE, NY — A person was hospitalized Wednesday morning after being struck by a train at an Upper West Side subway station near Lincoln Center, an FDNY spokesman said.

The person was allegedly lying down on the station's northbound tracks before being struck by the train, according to witness Liana Messina (disclaimer: Messina is Patch's director of social media).

"All the sudden I saw something on the opposite side on the tracks. I couldn't tell if it was a bag or a person," Messina said. "People started to gather across from it, and then before we knew it the train came and everyone like screamed a little."

Messina said that a man attempted to get the attention of an MTA worker, but couldn't notify anyone before the train entered the station.

Trains on the 1, 2 and 3 lines were held in stations between West 14th and 96th streets as emergency responders operated at the scene of the collision, MTA officials announced on social media.
