Popular Upper West Side Clothing Store Permanently Shutters
Scotch & Soda closed it store on 80th and Columbus Avenue after the company recently filed for bankruptcy.

UPPER WEST SIDE, NY — Scotch & Soda, the popular Dutch clothing store, recently closed its Upper West Side location after the company filed for bankruptcy.
The outpost shuttered seven years after opening at 416 Columbus Ave.
The clothing retailer that "celebrates the free spirit of Amsterdam" filed for bankruptcy during the end of March. It was subsequently acquired by the fashion brand Bluestar Alliance.

Scotch & Soda explained its need to file for bankruptcy as due to a cash flow deficit stemming from a decline in consumer confidence and the COVID-19 pandemic related lockdowns.
Its stores within the Netherlands are expected to remain open.

The Upper West Side location was its fifth in New York City, and part of an expansion push in 2016 to see 1,000 stores get opened worldwide.
Along with the pandemic, the Upper West Side outpost was not helped by sidewalk shed over its storefront for the past three years.
It appears. that the Scotch & Soda location on Fulton Street has also shuttered, while the remaining four in New York City still seem to be open.
The now-empty Upper West Side storefront will be a sought after location, as it is directly across from the American Museum of Natural History's new Richard Gilder Center, Theodore Roosevelt Park, and not far from Central Park.
