Track Fire Breaks Out At West 72nd Street Station, MTA Says
The fire broke out around 1 p.m. and forced service changes on the 1, 2 and 3 lines.

UPPER WEST SIDE, NY — A track fire broke out Tuesday afternoon at an Upper West Side subway station, MTA and fire officials said.
A portion of the southbound track at the West 72nd Street and Broadway station caught fire around 1 p.m. Tuesday, forcing trains to bypass the station while firefighters operated on the scene, an MTA spokesman said.
The fire was put out by 1:45 p.m., but trains continued to pass the station as the MTA conducted tests on the track, an MTA spokesman said. While the tracks were out of commission, southbound 1, 2 and 3 trains were bypassing all stops between 96th Street and 42nd Street-Times Square.
