UPPER WEST SIDE, NY — With a recent run of warm temperatures helping thaw New York City following a cold winter, the Upper West Side is gearing up for an annual event that signals the beginning of spring.

The West Side Community Garden's annual Tulip Festival is set to kick off Saturday, April 20, according to the garden's website. The garden, located on West 89th Street between Columbus and Amsterdam avenues, will be home to 13,000 tulips in full bloom for the festival, which runs through April 28.

"Our annual Tulip Festival is a New York spring favorite," WSCG Board President Judy Robinson said in a statement. "The fruits of the fall bulb planting weekend – a participatory event enjoyed by garden members and local residents – are on full display as the garden showcases a great variety of colorful and rare tulips."
