Upper West Side Hotel Can Soon Serve Booze, Host Live Music

UPPER WEST SIDE, NY — An Upper West Side luxury hotel looking to rebrand and revitalize itself just got its liquor license approved by Community Board 7.

The Wallace, located at 242 West 76th Street, was bought by its current owners four years ago when it was called The Milburn Hotel.

The new owners eventually decided to rename the hotel and reopened it after the pandemic for the first time in October 2020

Representatives for the hotel, Phil Dorn and Niv Amodaj, both said during the recent Community Board 7 Business and Consumer Issues Committee meeting that The Wallace had been doing well since it reopened.

The pair added that they saw the liquor license as the final step for the UWS hotel to reach its full potential.

The approved liquor license will only cover the first-floor lobby and lounge area, along with an event space in the basement.

The lobby bar and lounge has around 55 seats, while the downstairs area has a cap of 74 people.

There will only be live music allowed in the basement event space and a closing time of 1 a.m. across the board.

Both the lobby and basement event space are around 18,000 square feet.

The lobby bar will also be open to the public, not just hotel guests.

Additionally, liquor licenses for the Sunrise Senior Living Center and the Dominican restaurant Tropical Sensation were also approved by the Upper West Side community board.

The New York State Liquor Authority still needs to approve all these licenses to be finalized.
