Upper West Side Rite Aid On Amsterdam To Close: Report

The longtime Rite Aid on Amsterdam Avenue between West 69th and 70th Streets will close for good on Nov. 16, reports the West Side Rag.

UPPER WEST SIDE, NY — The Rite Aid at 210-220 Amsterdam Avenue, between West 69th and 70th Streets, is closing, according to store employees who talked to the West Side Rag.

Employees told the Upper West Side publication the location will permanently close on Nov. 16 after decades in the neighborhood.

Retail stores have had a tough time in general over the past couple of years on the UWS and across the city. But the Rite Aid at 210-220 Amsterdam Avenue was given a particularly challenging task with a scaffolding sidewalk shed that stood in front of the store for most of the nine years between 2011 and 2020.

The sidewalk shed came down in the past year.

Rite Aid did not immediately respond to Patch's request for comment.

An employee told the West Side Rag that no more supply shipments will be sent to the store and prescriptions should be transferred to another pharmacy immediately.
