UWS Japanese Eatery Added To Michelin Restaurant New York Guide
A small Japanese restaurant on Amsterdam between 87th and 88th Streets was unexpectedly added to the coveted Michelin New York Guide.

UPPER WEST SIDE, NY — Michelin, the world's most coveted restaurant guide, just unexpectedly added six restaurants to its 2021 New York Guide, and one of them is a Japanese and sushi eatery on the Upper West Side.
The news comes after Michelin recently said that it would begin announcing a portion of its NYC selections throughout the year, opposed to its standard annual list.
The inaugural set of midyear announcements by the Michelin inspectors included Takeda, a Japanese restaurant at 566 Amsterdam Avenue, between West 87th and 88th Streets.

Here's what the Michelin inspectors had to say about the Upper West Side sushi spot.
"Chef Yukihiro Takeda is the intellect behind this charming and focused sushi lair. The slim and rustic space welcomes clients with an L-shaped counter," Michelin wrote in an announcement of the six new restaurants. "Your meal may open with translucent slices of branzino augmented with vinegared jelly, shiso and daikon. Then comes the nigiri - sublime fatty tuna with a delicate brushing of soy or addictively chewy red snapper dressed with fresh citrus."

"By revealing some of the new additions made by our inspectors throughout the year, we enhance our digital tools to further strengthen the ties that bind us to food lovers," said Gwendal Poullennec, international director of the Michelin Guides, in a news release.
Takeda will be closed from Nov. 23 to Dec. 3.
The restaurant's website describes itself as a "warm and appealing intimate space specializing in Edomame Style Sushi."
Chef Takeda has 30 years of experience and is considered an Itamae, which is a Japanese cuisine craftsman who has the unique skill to produce magic with fish.
