More than 30 cars have been broken into in part of the Upper West Side since Jan. 1, a large increase from 2018.
UPPER WEST SIDE, NY — A spike in car break-ins has been reported on the Upper West Side, and police beleive one serial robber may be to blame, according to reports.
Thirty-one break-ins have been reported in the NYPD's 20th Precicnt — which spans the Upper West Side from West 60th to 86th streets — since the beginning of the year, precinct commander Timothy Malin said at a local meeting as first reported by the West Side Rag. The number is a vast increase from the eight reported break-ins during the same span of time in 2018, according to the report.
Malin said that one robber has been caght and provided information on a second suspect, but police need to catch the crook in the act, the West Side Rag reported. All of the cars that have been burglarized had valuable items in them including a briefcase, a purse and a toolbox, according to the report.
