UWS Pre-K Program Closes Overnight, Report Says
The pre-k program, based in a West 84th Street church, gave parents one-day notice before shuttering.
UPPER WEST SIDE, NY — A universal pre-k program on the Upper West Side closed with little advanced notice, leaving neighborhood families scrambling to find another program for the remainder of the school year, according to reports.
Parents were given noticed the night before the Finger Painted Hands program abruptly closed, the West Side Rag first reported. Teachers at the school, which was housed in the Church of St. Matthew and St. Timothy on West 84th Street but was not affiliated with the church, were notified of the closing the next morning on Thursday, Feb. 28, according to the report.
The head of the pre-k program told the West Side Rag "this is a very difficult day" without answering any other questions during an interview. Parents reached by the West Side Rag told the publication that the school administration had complained about a lack of funding.

The Department of Education is working with local City Council Representative Helen Rosenthal to help families find pre-k seats for the remainder of the school year, according to the report.
