UPPER WEST SIDE, NY — Eater recently published its ranking of the 11 best new restaurants in the United States, and while an Upper West Side joint didn't earn a spot on the overall list, a neighborhood eatery was named among the next three best new restaurants in New York City.

Banh Vietnamese Shop House, at 942 Amsterdam Avenue (between West 106th and 107th), was picked by Eater editors as one of the four best new restaurants in the five boroughs.

Here's what Eater reporter Bao Ong had to say about it: "NYC’s Vietnamese restaurant scene has never been better. Exhibit A: John Nguyen and Nhu Ton’s Bánh Vietnamese Shop House. Their hit pop-up that went beyond pho and banh mi is now a brick-and-mortar, home to plates of crispy, sticky rice cakes and steamed rice rolls paired with pork belly — dishes rarely found in NYC."

The Mexican restaurant Aldama and the Palestinian eatery Ayat were named along with Banh Vietnamese Shop House as three of the four best new eateries in New York City.

However, the only NYC restaurant to earn a spot from Eater on the overall list of "The 11 Best New Restaurants in America" was Dhamaka, an Indian restaurant on the Lower East Side.
