White Gold Butchers Closes After 2 Years On UWS, Report Says
The butcher shop and restaurant was opened in 2016 by disgraced restauranteur Ken Friedman and chef April Bloomfield.
UPPER WEST SIDE, NY — An acclaimed Upper West Side eatery and butcher shop has closed after a two-year run in the neighborhood, according to reports.
White Gold Butchers, located on Amsterdam Avenue and West 78th Street, closed its doors after Sunday's dinner service and plans to reopen with a new concept, Eater New York first reported. The eatery was opened in 2016 by chef April Bloomfield and then-partner Ken Friedman.
While the restaurant and butcher shop combo received critical acclaim — including a two-star review from the New York Times' Pete Wells — its success was tarnished when Friedman was accused by multiple women of sexual harassment and groping. Soon after the accusations arose, butchers Erika Nakamura and Jocelyn Guest parted ways with White Gold, Eater reported.

Following the accusations against Friedman, Bloomfield issued an apology saying in an Instagram post that she "fell short" and was "truly sorry." Bloomfield and Friedman later ended their business partnership and the chef stepped away from her role at White Gold Butchers, Eater reported.
Details about the upcoming restaurant in the White Gold space are scarce, with a sign in the businesses' window promising an "approach to healthy and sustainable eating," Eater reported.
