Woman's Phone Snatched On UWS Subway Street, Police Say

The thief fled into a nearby subway station after the robbery, police said.

UPPER WEST SIDE, NY — The NYPD is trying to identify a man wanted for snatching a phone out of a woman's hands on the Upper West Side.

A 36-year-old woman was standing on West 93 Street and Broadway on Friday, Oct. 12 when an unknown man approached her on the street, police said. As the man passed by the woman, he grabbed the cellphone out of her hands and fled into an entrance of the 96th Street 1/2/3 subway station, police said.

The woman was not physically injured during the robbery, police said.

The suspect is described as a man in his 20s or 30s who stands about 5-foot-8. Police release photos of the man taken by a subway station security camera (seen above). He was last seen wearing a black hooded sweater with a blue and gray checkered pattern, gray sweatpants and white sneakers.
