  1. Due to a clerical error, the Oneida County Board of Elections (BOE) in New York mistakenly left a Republican primary in the Town of Remsen off the ballot, prompting the need for a special primary election. Four Republican candidates had qualified for two open positions on the Town of Remsen's council, but voters were left confused when no polling places were open on the expected primary day. The BOE acknowledged the oversight and is now working on organizing an expedited special primary election to ensure everyone's right to vote, although a specific date has not yet been announced. 2. A man from Utica, Joshua Randall, has been arrested by local Police in connection with an identity theft case that occurred in April. The police received a report from a victim who claimed that their debit card had been stolen and used for multiple purchases. Surveillance videos helped identify Randall as the suspect, but he initially refused to cooperate. He was eventually located and taken into custody on Jun. 27 and is now facing charges including Criminal Possession of Stolen Property, Identity Theft, Petit Larceny, and Harassment. 3. Michael Galime has emerged as the projected winner of the Republican primary race for Utica mayor, receiving 72 percent of the vote compared to Robert Cardillo's 26 percent, according to unofficial returns from the Oneida County Board of Elections. On the Democratic side, Celeste Friend defeated Frank DiBrango with a lead of 51 percent to 42 percent. Galime and Friend will now face each other in the general election scheduled for November, as the current mayor, Rob Palmieri, is term-limited after serving 12 years in office. (Spectrum News)
