1. Central New York Urgently Needs Blankets For Homeless Veterans (wibx950.com) — If you’ve got extra blankets in your Utica home, local veterans need them now. The Utica Center for Development is urgently collecting clean blankets and comforters at its 726 Washington Street location, as well as at its Rome site, to help homeless veterans and struggling families stay warm through the harsh Central New York winter.
   

2. Short-term rental owners in Oneida County must register their properties by Jan. 1 (cnycentral.com) — If you host a short-term rental in Utica or anywhere in Oneida County, you must register your property with the county by January 1, 2026 to keep listing on Airbnb, Vrbo, and similar sites. New state-backed rules also add a 5% county occupancy tax on top of existing sales tax, which platforms will collect from guests rather than hosts.
   

3. Prevent Poisoning: Key Holiday Safety Tips (wktv.com) — Families in Utica are being urged to take extra care with common holiday hazards, from poisonous plants and button batteries to cannabis edibles and carbon monoxide. The Upstate New York Poison Center shares practical tips on safe storage, food handling, and chemical use, and reminds residents to call 1-800-222-1222 immediately if poisoning is suspected.
   

4. Utica man arrested after hitting victim with truck (cnyhomepage.com) — Police say a Utica resident has been charged after allegedly striking a man twice with a pickup truck during a family-related argument near Rutger and Albany streets, with the victim treated at Wynn Hospital for non-serious injuries. Officers detained several people at the scene, gathered additional evidence, and later arrested 61-year-old Kevin Clark of Utica on assault-related charges.
   

5. Monday Morning Update 12/15/25 (histalk2.com) — Local students at a Utica middle school just benefited from a Donors Choose grant that funded new science club supplies, thanks to a large matching donation. The broader update focuses on national health IT news, AI in healthcare, and classroom projects funded in several other cities across the country.
