Utica Police investigating fatal shooting, seeking public assistance (uticaod.com) β Utica police are investigating a fatal shooting on Steuben Street after a man was found with a gunshot wound to the head and later died at Wynn Hospital. Detectives say an argument inside the residence led to a handgun being fired, and theyβre now analyzing physical and forensic evidence while asking the public for any information that could clarify what happened.

ICAN's Rise Up Event Empowers Young Men with Skills and Confidence (wktv.com) β Young men in the Utica City School District are getting support, skills, and positive role models through ICANβs βRise Upβ empowerment event at the Parkway Rec Center. The program offers workshops from financial literacy to cake decorating, plus access to community resources, all designed to build confidence and resilience for Utica youth ages 11 and up.

Buttenschon, partners donate winter food drive items to local pantries (oneidadispatch.com) β Hundreds of winter accessories, teddy bears, and food items collected in Uticaβs 6th Annual Winter Accessories and Food Drive are being distributed to pantries across the Mohawk Valley. Assemblywoman Marianne Buttenschon, the Utica Comets, Utica City FC, Hannaford, Kadaβs Promise, and local police and fire departments teamed up so local families wonβt face the cold or hunger this winter.

Former New York state prison guard sentenced to up to life in prison in inmate's death (audacy.com) β A former New York state prison guard has been sentenced in Utica to 25 years to life for murder in the 2024 beating death of inmate Robert Brooks at Marcy Correctional Facility. The case, involving nearby prisons and body-camera footage, has fueled statewide calls for prison reform that Utica-area residents may see reflected in new camera and transparency requirements.
