Here are the top three stories in Utica today:

  1. On Wednesday night, police responded to a shooting at Rick's Place that resulted in one man being charged and taken into custody. Around 9:00 p.m., police received a call of a man shooting outside of a white house, and when police arrived at the scene, they found several shell casings on the sidewalk and evidence of gunfire that struck Rick's Place and several parked cars. Officers found the suspect, Tyrell Williams, in the back of the house and searched the home to find a loaded handgun with matching bullets to the casings found on the sidewalk. Williams was charged with counts of criminal possession as well as reckless endangerment. (WKTV)
  2. Brooklyn Pickle Utica has once again been forced to delay its grand opening to a new projected opening of Monday, Apr. 24 at 10:00 a.m. The Syracuse-based chain has had a bit of difficulty opening its first restaurant outside of Syracuse and has had to delay several times since its originally planned opening date in March, but the hope is this will be the last one. The new establishment will be located at 600 State St. and will feature all of the signature sandwiches and pickles the chain is known for; however, the Utica location will be the first out of the brand to offer beer. Syracuse Brooklyn Pickle lovers will have to travel the distance if they want this new experience as owner Craig Kowadla said there are no immediate plans to introduce beer to the other locations. 3. Utica police responded to an argument that turned violent early Wednesday morning when a woman allegedly pulled out a "cutting instrument" and proceeded to injure the victim. When police responded to the scene on Genesee Street at the 1500 block, officers were told that the alleged attacker, Alisha Nason, and the victim had been in a verbal argument that heated up, and Nason cut the victim's arm. It was later reported that the victim had a protection order against Nason that was also violated in the incident. Nason was arrested and received charges of second-degree assault, active criminal contempt, and first-degree criminal content. (WUTR/WFXV - CNYhomepage.com)
