LONG ISLAND, NY — A couple inches of snow could fall on Monday just a day after Long Islanders enjoyed record-high temperatures.

Temperatures will drop below freezing early Monday, setting the stage for the winter weather. The window of 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. is when the National Weather Service says the odds of snow are the highest on the island.

A total of 1-2 inches of accumulation is expected for parts of Suffolk County. Nassau County will likely see less than an inch.

"It may be hard to believe that any snow is on the way, given the warmth and lack of wintry weather thus far this season," AccuWeather Meteorologist Ryan Adamson said.

A coastal flood advisory will be in effect from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday.

"Minor flooding is expected in the more vulnerable locations near the waterfront and shoreline," the advisory says. "Some roads and low-lying properties including parking lots, parks, lawns, and homes and businesses with basements near the waterfront will experience minor flooding."

The freezing weather Monday with wind chill temperatures falling as low as 20 degrees will be a big change from the second day of 2022. The high temperature at Long Island MacArthur Airport was 58 degrees Sunday, topping the daily record high of 57 degrees set in 2000.
