Career In 'Nursing To Honor' Late Dad: Wantagh Star Student

SEAFORD-WANTAGH, NY — Star Students are found in classrooms, on concert and theater stages and at debate lecterns, and out in the community doing good things to make life better for all of us.

Here at Patch, we've launched an initiative to help recognize Star Students, and we’re working to tell the stories of these outstanding kids to their neighbors.

This submission comes from Crystal Ryan who nominated her daughter Grace, a student at MacArthur High School of Wantagh-Seaford.

Why do you believe the star local student should be recognized?

My daughter overcame a terrible few years. We lost her father to stage 4 lung cancer in Dec 2020. Her depression was so severe she almost got held back. Grace was always involved in science research and won many awards. She is always a published author. Grace was on the Varsity Girls Swim and Dive team since the 8th grade. She was also the Dive Captain. Grace was one of four students out of thousands of applicants to be awarded a Northwell Hospital Internship as a Junior. She was also recently accepted into Penn State Nursing Program. Only 150 students get accepted into this program. Grace is also the oldest of 5 children. She has chosen the nursing field to honor her father, whom she was very close to. I’m so proud of my girl.

Grace is kind and loyal.
