Cheer By The Dozen: Seaford Manor Elementary Students Donate Toys For Kids In Need
District officials said the toy drive generated dozens of donations.
SEAFORD, NY. — Seaford Manor Elementary School students got to spread some extra joy Wednesday as the school wrapped up its toy drive, which had been running since Nov. 24. The drive was held in conjunction with Merrick-based organization Desirae’s Darlings, a nonprofit that provides toys to underprivileged kids.
The student council at Seaford Manor posted signs throughout the school during the drive, in efforts to encourage donations. With help from faculty advisors Kristin Nelson and Lisa Perrone, the signs seemed to do the trick.
“It was a lot of toys, and we are so grateful for everyone who donated and helped spread cheer to the less fortunate,” Nelson said.

To celebrate the conclusion of the toy drive, student council members at Seaford Manor hosted a holiday singalong at the end of the school day, standing near the front entrance to the school singing next to boxes. The singalong allowed students, families and staff to make their final donations and hear a song or two before Desirae’s Darlings cofounder Joe Gallart picked up the donations. Gallart created Desirae’s Darlings in memory of his daughter, Desirae Marie Gallart.
The donations, district officials said, will be going to the Marine Corps’ Toys for Tots program. For the student council members, the opportunity to give other kids a toy this holiday season created a good feeling.

“It went really good,” fifth grade student council member Danny Cronin said. “It was a good way to give back to the community. It’s important because people for the holidays all deserve something, and it’s a good time to bring joy to everybody.”
