Cops: Woman Dies After Illegal U-Turn Crash Near Jones Beach

A pickup truck tried to make a U-turn near the beach tollbooths Saturday night, police said.

A Bethpage woman died after her car collided with a pickup truck on the Wantagh State Parkway Saturday night, according to New York State Troopers.

Police responded at 8:56 p.m. to a two-car accident in the southbound lanes of the parkway just north of the Jones Beach tollbooths, cops said.

Investigators found that a Ford F-250 pickup truck tried to make an illegal U-turn into the left lanes when it struck a Jeep Cherokee, officials said.

The driver of the Jeep, Elisabeth Cutrone, 51, died shortly after being airlifted to Nassau University Medical Center, authorities said. Her husband, Douglas Cutrone, 42, was also rushed to NUMC for treatment of a fractured hip, police said.

The driver of the truck, Eugenio Taveras-Galindo, 35, of Westbury, and his four passengers were treated at NUMC for minor injuries, cops said. Taveras-Galindo has not been charged.

Police are asking anyone with information about the accident to call State Police Investigators in Valley Stream at 516-561-8492. The investigation is ongoing.
