Crime Report: Phone Scam from Fake Grandson, Home Burglary

Recent incident reports in Wantagh and Seaford from the 7th Precinct.

The following information was supplied by the Nassau County Police Department's Seventh Precinct. A criminal charge is only an accusation and does not indicate a conviction.

  • On Jan. 10, a 17-year old Seaford boy was arrested at his home on Neptune Avenue and charged with third-degree assault.'
  • On Jan. 10, David L Stoddart Jr., 19,  of Loganville Ga. was arrested at the headquarters in Seaford and charged with second-degree robbery.
  • On Jan. 12, Joseph Grumelli, 26, of Wantagh was arrested on Merrick Road near Neptune Avenue in Seaford and charged with first-degree driving while intoxicated, driving while ability impaired, third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and three vehicle and traffic law violations.
  • The driver side door of a 2012 tan Toyota parked on Hampton Court in Wantagh was reported scratched on Jan. 12.
  • A woman on Earl Road in Wantagh reported to police on Jan. 12 being victim of a financial scam over the phone. Police said the woman received a call from someone she believed to be her grandson. The caller stated he was in an accident and was arrested for driving while intoxicated and requested money for a public defender. The woman complied and sent money via Western Union to an address in Malaysia. The complainant later found out she was a victim of a scam and her grandson did not get into an accident.
  • An unknown white male suspect ran through a PVF fence on Merrick Road in Seaford on Jan. 13 causing damage.
  • A glue type substance was found placed on the front and rear door locks of a house on Sidney Court in Seaford between Jan. 14-15.
  • On Jan. 16, Scott C Gutnick, 22, of Brooklyn was arrested at the Nassau County Police Department Seventh Precinct headquarters in Seaford and charged with leaving the scene of an incident without a report.
  • On Jan. 17, Victor J Chetti,, 44, of Long Beach was arrested at the Nassau County Police Department Seventh Precinct headquarters in Seaford and charged with second-degree burglary.
  • The sod on an athletic field at was reported ripped up on Jan. 17.
  • A home on Stratford Road in Wantagh was burglarized on Jan. 18. The point of entry was through a rear door but no items were removed from the house.
