Don Snyder Running for 10th Term as Wantagh Fire Commissioner
Uncontested fire district election slated for Tuesday
Commissioner Don Snyder is running unopposed for his 10th term this coming Tuesday.
The Wantagh Fire District encompasses all of Wantagh and parts of Levittown, Seaford, East Meadow and Bellmore as well as Jones Beach State Park and Massapequa's Tobay Beach. Voting will take place on Tuesday from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. in all five Wantagh Fire Department station houses. The firehouse locations where voting will take place includes Station 1 on 3470 Park Ave., Wantagh; Station 2 on 844 Wantagh Ave., Levittown; Station 3 on 2529 Neptune Ave., Seaford; Station 4 on 1191 Alken Ave., Seaford and Station 5 on 2985 Merrick Road, Bellmore.
Snyder has been an active firefighter in the Wantagh Fire Department for the past 59 years since moving to the community. In his nearly six decades of service to the Wantagh Fire Department, Snyder has served in every office within the department. He was elected Lieutenant and Captain of Engine 4, served as Assistant Chief for four years and Chief of Department for two years.

Snyder is a charter member of Company 2 and has served in a number of capacities in various offices within the company. The Wantagh resident earned his Bachelor's Degree from Springfield College, his Masters from Teachers College at Columbia University and his Administrative Degree from New York University.
In addition to his experience with the Wantagh Fire District, Snyder also had an extensive teaching and coaching career in the Farmingdale School District, where he retired in 1992 after 42 ½ years of service. Snyder is the fourth winningest high school football coach in New York State history guiding Farmingdale to 237 wins.

Snyder is also active in the Nassau County Athletic Council, having served as vice president of the organization for a number of years. He also continues to serve on a number of committees within that organization.
Snyder is also an active member of the Levittown Presbyterian Church having served as an Elder and Deacon at the congregation. He presently is active on the House and Grounds Committee and is a member of the Ushers Association.
Snyder indicated that if re-elected to the commissioner's post, he will bring "years of experience to the district, department and community". He added that he is "dedicated and committed to the position and will serve to the best of his ability".
