Electrical Fire Breaks Out in Seaford Home

Nobody was home at time of early Saturday afternoon blaze that firefighters quickly extinguished.

An electrical fire broke out at a home on Alcona Street in Seaford early Saturday afternoon, but there were no injuries reported and damage was contained to a small area.

The responded to the 3684 Alcona St. home just before 1 p.m. Saturday after the electrical fire began in a room on the western corner of the house. Wantagh Fire Chief Jeff Lindgren said Long Island Power Authority crews also responded to the scene to turn all power off in the home before firefighters entered to extinguish the small blaze. Firefighters were able to quickly put out the fire and prevent it from spreading.

"We had it contained to one corner of the house," said Lindgren.

The fire was started from an electrical malfunction that caused a fire in the wall and crawl space of the home, according to fire officials. Firefighters had to open an interior wall and go into the crawl space under the home to ensure that no fire was still present.  

Nobody was home at the time of the fire and Lindgren described damage to the house as "minimal."

Mutual aid for the fire was provided by the . Firefighting units from Bellmore, North Bellmore and Massapequa were on stand by at Wantagh Fire Department headquarters to provide emergency coverage in case it was need in other parts of the fire district.
