Forest Lake Elementary Helps Long Islanders Bundle Up With Two-Week Coat Drive.
The drive was conducted in partnership with State Assemblyman Dave McDonough's office.

WANTAGH, NY. — Forest Lake Elementary School layered up this December, as the school’s student council held a two-week “Coats for Kids” drive that concluded Dec. 9.
The coats were donated in a box in the school’s lobby, and the school partnered with New York State Assemblyman Dave McDonough to bring new and gently used winter coats for both children and adults. Also accepted in the drive were winter warmth accessories including earmuffs, gloves, hats and scarves.
“It’s important because there are people who are freezing,” fifth grade studentcouncil member Grace Griesbach said, “and we have extra coats so we can donate a few.”

District officials said Thursday that donations would be delivered to McDonough’s office before being circulated to local organizations that help families in need. After the student council posted signs throughout the school, district officials said they collected more than 100 items to keep Long Islanders warm this winter.
