Former Star Athlete Pleads Guilty in Drunken High Speed Crash
Officials said she was using her cellphone and driving more than 100 MPH when she crashed on a Meadowbrook Parkway exit ramp in N. Merrick.

A former star athlete pleaded guilty Thursday to felony DWI and assault for a high speed crash on a Meadowbrook Parkway exit ramp in 2014, according to the Nassau County District Attorney’s office.
Keira Corbin, 21, of Wyandanch, pleaded guilty to second-degree assault, DWAI with combined drugs and alcohol, and reckless driving, the DA said.
Corbin is due to be sentenced Sept. 8. Acting Supreme Court Justice Christopher Quinn committed to sentencing Corbin to three years in prison, officials said.

“The combination of alcohol, drugs, using a cell phone and 111 mph speed made this terrible crash inevitable,” Acting DA Madeline Singas said in a statement. “It is amazing that no one inside or out of the car was killed but the devastating injuries suffered by Ms. Corbin’s passenger should remind everyone to be careful about whom you trust to drive.”
Corbin was at the wheel of a Chevy Cruze on the morning of March 1, 2014 when she lost control of the car and crashed at an exit for the Southern State Parkway, officials said. Corbin was using her cellphone and driving at 111 miles per hour when the crash happened, the DA said.

The slid into a small tree, rolled over several times, and flipped over a metal guardrail into a wooded area, authorities said.
Corbin asked witnesses at the scene not to call the police, the DA said. Officers did respond to the scene, however, and found Corbin had a .17 blood alcohol content, officials said. She also reportedly had marijuana and Xanax in her system.
The guardrail sliced open the car’s roof, whose jagged edges “essentially scalped” Corbin’s 18-year-old passenger, the DA said. She is still recovering, officials said. A second passenger reportedly suffered minor injuries.
Corbin was a star basketball player at Baldwin Senior High School and helped lead the team to become Long Island champions.
