Wantagh Honor Society Leads Nonprofit Book Drive
The donation drive ran for a month, wrapping up Thursday.

WANTAGH, NY. — Wantagh High School's National English Honor Society passed the book over the past month, collecting donations in a monthlong drive that ended Jan. 8. The donated books, district officials said, will be given to Book Fairies, the Hicksville-based nonprofit that redistributes books to underserved communities across Long Island and New York City.
District officials said Friday that the donation drive had generated hundreds of book donations, with honor society officers gathering the books Jan. 8 and bringing them to Alisa Lopera, the advisor for the society, to organize and package. Leading the charge were seniors Lea Vagnone and Sophia Zanelotti, the vice president and social media manager of the English Honor Society, respectively.
“It was a huge success,” Vagnone said. “I’m very proud of how many books we’ve
collected for the drive. It’s going to help a lot of people, especially young kids, who are
going to now have more access to books.”
