Historic Appearance For High School Student In Wrestling Tourney
Sophomore Ashley Diaz is the first female to place at a Nassau County wrestling event.
SEAFORD, NY — A student/athlete from Seaford is taking a historic step for women.
Seaford High School sophomore Ashley Diaz is the first female wrestler to make the podium at the Nassau County Division II sectional tournament.
The top-six finishers in each weight class are honored. She was fifth in the event in the 118-pound category, according to the Seaford School District website.

Diaz, who won three of her five matches, hopes her trail-breaking athleticism can inspire other girls to try wrestling.
