Jan. 11: Snow Looming, Speech on Bullying, Basketball Action.

What's happening in and around Wantagh and Seaford.

Welcome to Jan. 11, 2011, a rare day full of one's as it is 1/11/11. Snow is in the forecast for this evening into Wednesday but there are still plenty of happenings in the Wantagh-Seaford area today.

1. The National Weather Service has a winter storm warning for Long Island from Tuesday night into Wednesday afternoon. Weather service officials said Nassau County could get blasted with between 6 and 12 inches of snow, along with winds gusting up to 35 mph.

3. The important topic of bullying will be discussed at the Seaford SEPTA meeting scheduled for 7:30 p.m. in the Seaford Middle School Cafeteria. The keynote speaker will be Ed Nitkewicz, a trustee with the South Huntington Board of Education and a parent of a child with special needs. Nitkewicz will discuss different types of bullying, profiles of bullies, strategies and tips for what parents can do to help prevent bullying and how to support their children during the difficult times.

4. Those looking for an activity for their young children can attend at the from 1:30 p.m. to 2 p.m. Registration is open to children ages three to six.

5. There is plenty of local high school basketball action on tap for Tuesday. The boys basketball team hosts New Hyde Park at 6:15 p.m. while the Lady Warrior hoopsters will be at New Hyde Park, also at 6:15 p.m. The girls basketball team will try and rebound from Friday's season-opening to Mineola when it hosts Clarke starting at 7 p.m. The Seaford boys basketball team will be at Clarke with tip-off scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
