Letter to Editor: Community Needs Public Takeover of Aqua

Seaford resident Roberta Martina urges elected officials to work toward taking over water company because of high rates.

To the editor:

Thank you Hempstead Town Supervisor Kate Murray and U.S. Sen. Charles Schumer, D-NY, for saving Wantagh Woods from what would have been an eyesore in Aqua New York’s proposed water tower on DeMott Avenue that has since been . However we need more as this was a hollow victory!

Can you fight as successfully to keep future water rate increases fair and reasonable? It is certain, any project to fix the low water pressure will be passed on to the consumer, the same way the new electronic water meters were passed on to us! Capital improvements should be a write-off for the water company.—not a double-dip profit!

I’m a registered independent and watching and waiting where to invest my vote. State Sen. Charles Fuschillo, R-Merrick,  was the only politician to testify against the rate increase, which you can can see by clicking here.

Take the company over, Kate Murray, and put us under your wing of fiscal responsibility, I’d rather pay a fair price to you for water-- plus create jobs in the Town of Hempstead -- than be at the mercy of corporate sharks!

I also ask you, Senator Schumer, for help in taking over Aqua. You are a keen watchdog always rallying for consumer protection.
