Letter to Editor: Upset at Lack of Taxi Service on New Year's

I am writing this letter to express my frustration with the taxi cab companies on New Year’s Eve/Day, especially after hearing so many radio commercials about the availability of cabs.

Stuck in Seaford looking for a ride to Hicksville, I made 52 calls to three different local taxi companies. Of the 52 calls, five of them were answered.

The first four times I was denied a cab. The fifth time the dispatcher told me it would take an hour for them to pick me up. When I agreed that I would wait the hour, he said “I can’t do this!” and promptly hung up on me.

I never got a cab that night. All I could think was: are the taxi companies in cahoots with the Nassau County Police Department to make money from DWIs?
