More Than 100 People Arrested On LI During Holiday Weekend: Hochul

"New York State has zero tolerance for drunk and impaired driving," the governor said.

LONG ISLAND, NY — Memorial Day weekend is one of the busiest times of the year for drivers. Holiday enforcement by state police led to 117 arrests on Long Island for speeding during the long weekend, Gov. Hochul's office said.

There were 24 DWI arrests and troopers gave out 38 tickets for distracted driving.

“New York State has zero tolerance for drunk and impaired driving, and we are doing everything in our power to prevent the senseless tragedies that result from it," Hochul said. "Public safety is my number one priority, and we will continue to aggressively enforce our driving laws so that New Yorkers are protected."

The enforcement period ran from Friday, May 24 through Monday, May 27.

Nineteen people on Long Island were also cited for restraint or seat belt, while six people were ticketed for failing to move over on the road.

Overall, 651 tickets were issued on Long Island during the holiday weekend.
